Safety Matters
Product safety is our priority
Consumer’s safety is the main goal of the production and distribution of cosmetic and personal care products in Indonesia. Industry players are fully responsible for that.
The pharmaceutical preparation regulations in Indonesia govern how cosmetics and personal care products are produced and distributed to national and export markets. Registration of cosmetics and body care products is carried out under the supervision of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
The technical and scientific teams as well as PERKOSMI's team of experts, partners and stakeholders work together on various programs and initiatives aimed at increasing knowledge on the ingredients, manufacturing processes and scientific, research and development. Risk-based safety assessment
Safety assessment of cosmetic ingredients and products are based on an evaluations of the risks they pose. Risk is defined as the probability of harm related to dose and exposure. Hazard-based safety assessment looks only at the potential cause of injury but has nothing to do with dose or exposure.
The risk assessment process has three stages: hazard identification, dose response and exposure assessment. Risk characterization and management is determined by the relationship between dose and incidence, and the resulting health effects.
On the government side, in this case BPOM RI sets a list of cosmetic preparations and raw materials that are allowed in Indonesia. BPOM also stipulates a list of prohibited cosmetic ingredients. BPOM RI periodically opens industrial public consultation rooms. Read more in the section on cosmetic composition.
On the industry side, manufacturers are required to create a unique product information document per product document, which includes two elements: safety and efficacy. The safety assessor will assess the safety components and then be responsible for making a safety evaluation. For a summary of the safety assessment procedures, read the information in the consumer safety section.
